Australia women’s head coach Shelley Nitschke has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping her in charge until June 2029. Nitschke, a former Australia allrounder, took over in 2022 and led the team to success at the Commonwealth Games and the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Her new contract ensures she will lead the team through the next four major global tournaments, including the 2026 and 2028 T20 World Cups, the inaugural women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Additionally, Australia will travel to England for the Ashes in 2027 and host their rivals in early 2029.
Nitschke expressed her excitement, stating, “It’s a privilege to continue coaching this team and working with such an outstanding group of players and staff.” She highlighted the team’s achievements and the motivation for future success, looking forward to guiding them through upcoming challenges.
Under Nitschke’s leadership, Australia has maintained their No.1 ranking in both white-ball formats, including a dominant 16-0 victory over England in the multi-format Ashes. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg praised Nitschke’s achievements and her role in the team’s success and transition with new players.
