A clash between two groups erupted in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Wednesday over playing Holi, resulting in several injuries, as confirmed by the police. The dispute initially began over the Holi festival in ward number 12 of Dhupguri Municipality. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation with members of the groups using bamboo sticks and iron rods, causing tension in the vicinity.

Upon being alerted, a significant police force from the Dhupguri police station swiftly arrived at the scene. Police station IC Utpal Saha intervened to restore order, ultimately bringing the situation under control with prompt police action. According to police reports and local accounts, the conflict arose while both factions were engaged in playing with water colors in the morning.

Allegedly, a disagreement ensued when individuals from one group reprimanded the girlfriend of a young man from the opposing group. Initially, the groups were engaged in a verbal argument before the situation escalated into a physical confrontation. Police were informed and promptly responded to the scene. The intervention of local residents also played a crucial role in pacifying the situation.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident thus far. However, authorities are vigilantly monitoring the area to prevent any potential further disturbances later in the day. Meanwhile, central paramilitary forces commenced a route march in Kolkata on the occasion of Holi, patrolling areas near Sealdah and Boubazar in central Kolkata. Similar marches were conducted in various locations within the Muchipara police station jurisdiction.
