A day after the Union Budget 2026 presentation, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta outlined the key benefits for the city, emphasizing new prospects in infrastructure and health. During a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat, Chief Minister Gupta expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Home Minister Amit Shah for their ongoing support in matters concerning Delhi’s security, law enforcement, and administrative duties.
CM Gupta detailed Delhi-specific proposals and schemes in the Budget, stressing that collaboration between the Centre and the State is crucial for sectors like roads, water, transport, health, employment, and security to thrive. She underscored that the Budget’s emphasis on development, with increased capital expenditure, will drive construction activities and job creation nationwide.
The Chief Minister highlighted a rise in capital expenditure from Rs 11.2 lakh crore to Rs 12.2 lakh crore, leading to enhanced infrastructure, more projects, and increased employment opportunities, particularly benefiting major cities like Delhi. She pointed out provisions in the Budget aimed at empowering women and youth, including constructing hostels for girls and offering avenues for skill development, technology, and employment.
CM Gupta noted the Budget’s focus on job creation in sectors like health, sports, and tourism, emphasizing a balance between development, reform, and relief. She elaborated on specific provisions benefiting Delhi and commended the Budget’s reference to the Orange Economy, highlighting plans for ‘Content Creation Labs’ in schools to promote sectors like AVGC.
Referring to the Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment (SASCI), the Chief Minister mentioned a 33% increase in its size to Rs 2 crore, enabling accelerated development projects without straining Delhi’s budget. She also lauded the allocation of a Rs 10,000 crore fund for small businesses, facilitating easier access to capital and business expansion, particularly benefiting Delhi’s economy driven by small traders and service providers.
The Chief Minister lauded measures in the Budget aimed at simplifying business operations, providing support to municipal bodies, extending regulatory relief to IT and services sectors, and introducing reforms in corporate bonds. With a significant presence of companies, start-ups, and professionals in Delhi, these decisions are expected to streamline capital mobilization, boost investments, employment, and invigorate the city’s economy.
