The Election Commission of India (ECI) has lifted the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) that was in place after the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry. However, the MCC will continue in West Bengal’s 144-Falta Assembly constituency due to a fresh poll being ordered there. The Model Code of Conduct is enforced from the election schedule announcement until the election process is completed.
The ECI has declared the results of the General Elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry, along with the bye-elections in various Assembly constituencies. Following the result declarations, the Model Code of Conduct has ceased to be in effect in all states and constituencies, except for the 144-Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal where a fresh poll is scheduled. The MCC will persist in Falta due to the ordered re-poll.
Earlier, the ECI canceled the voting process in the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal and announced fresh polling on the 21st of this month. The decision was made after reports of electoral offenses and subversion of the democratic process during the initial voting on April 29. Counting of votes for the Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry has been completed, with results announced for all constituencies.
