In a tragic incident in Khiriya Thapak village, Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, a 21-year-old woman named Nidhi Dhanuk was reportedly shot dead by her father, Munnesh Dhanuk, in a suspected case of honor killing. The arrest of Munnesh has been confirmed by Mehgaon SDOP Sanjay Kocha, with the body sent for post-mortem examination. The police are investigating the motive behind the crime.
The police have taken action by registering a case under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Samhita for murder. They are delving into further details, including the acquisition of the illegal firearm used in the incident. The tragic event unfolded when Munnesh called Nidhi to a mustard field and allegedly shot her with a country-made pistol known as a “katta.”
Following the incident, Nidhi’s body was discovered the next day after her mother, Pooja Dhanuk, informed the authorities. The police suspect that the crime took place between 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Despite the act, the accused did not attempt to flee the scene, as per police reports.
Nidhi had recently married Devu Dhanuk from Gudagudi Ka Naka in Gwalior but eloped with a young man from her village just 17 days after the wedding. The elopement occurred after a shopping trip in Gwalior’s Maharaj Bada, where Nidhi vanished while her husband was getting water. The motive behind the killing, as confessed by Munnesh, was the perceived dishonor brought upon the family due to Nidhi’s actions.
Villagers and the accused have cited social stigma and fear of societal repercussions as underlying reasons for the tragic incident. In rural settings like this, inter-family relationships and elopements are often viewed negatively, leading to such extreme actions.
