The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced the rescheduling of the first International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit, originally set for June 1 in New Delhi. This summit, aligned with the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV), involves African countries crucial to global conservation efforts. Due to the postponement of the India-Africa Forum Summit, the IBCA Summit will also be held at a later date to ensure inclusive participation from all range countries, including African nations. New dates for the Summit will be disclosed following consultations with stakeholders and participating countries.
India’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development remains unwavering, as stated by the Ministry. The Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, unveiled the website and logo for the first International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit 2026 on May 6 in New Delhi. The Summit, themed ‘Save Big Cats, Save Humanity, Save Ecosystem’, aims to gather a diverse group of over 400 individuals, including conservationists, policymakers, scientists, and corporate leaders worldwide. A significant outcome of the Summit will be the adoption of the ‘Delhi Declaration’, the first global declaration on big cat conservation, emphasizing shared priorities and transboundary cooperation.
The IBCA, headquartered in India, is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the conservation of seven big cat species: Lion, Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, Jaguar, and Puma.
