The INS Vikrant, a key player in Operation Sindoor, will be showcased at the International Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam starting February 18. This indigenous aircraft carrier, part of the Vikrant carrier battle group, played a crucial role in compelling the Pakistan Navy during Operation Sindoor.
Measuring 262.5 meters in length and 61.6 meters in width, the INS Vikrant has a displacement of about 45,000 tonnes. Capable of reaching speeds up to 28 knots, it can accommodate around 1,600 personnel, including women officers, and carry up to 30 aircraft, including fighter jets and helicopters.
Named after India’s first aircraft carrier decommissioned in 1997, the INS Vikrant has a rich history, having contributed significantly to past military operations. The International Fleet Review is a ceremonial event where naval delegations, ships, submarines, and aircraft are reviewed by the President, showcasing maritime strength and cooperation.
Visakhapatnam will also host MILAN 26, a multilateral naval exercise involving over 135 countries, aimed at enhancing professional bonds and cooperation at sea. With more than 60 countries participating in the International Fleet Review, the event underscores India’s growing naval partnerships.
