Jaisalmer in Rajasthan has broken records with a temperature spike of 46.4 degrees Celsius, the highest in April. This surpasses the previous record of 46.3 degrees set on April 18, 2025, marking a severe heatwave episode. Across major cities in Rajasthan, temperatures soared above 40 degrees in the past 24 hours, with Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, and others experiencing intense heatwave conditions.
In Kota, temperatures reached 45.7 degrees, breaking an eight-year record. Special arrangements, including water ponds, have been made at Abheda Biological Park to protect animals from the scorching heat. Following the intense afternoon heat, several districts saw a shift in weather, with thunderstorms and rain in Ganganagar, Bikaner, and Hanumangarh, and hailstorms in parts of Bikaner and Ganganagar.
Dusty winds and light showers brought temporary relief to Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, and other areas by Monday evening. This change was due to an active Western Disturbance, providing much-needed respite from the extreme heat and heatwave conditions in Rajasthan. The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur issued a ‘yellow alert’ for thunderstorms and rain in 11 districts, while two districts are expected to face continued heatwave conditions.
