External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha to strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the two countries. They reviewed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including energy, trade, investments, connectivity, security, and people-to-people ties. Jaishankar expressed gratitude for Qatar’s support in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community and explored opportunities for further collaboration.
Jaishankar is on an official visit to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman from July 5 to July 10, aiming to enhance bilateral relations and address regional issues. Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated Qatar Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his condolences and support following the tragic accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar, where 12 Indian nationals lost their lives.
India and Qatar share strong historical ties, with diplomatic relations dating back to 1973. The two nations have been steadily expanding cooperation in various sectors through regular engagements. The bilateral relationship was elevated to a strategic partnership during the Qatar Amir’s visit to India in 2025, highlighting the deepening ties between the countries.
