Karnataka Police have apprehended a third individual in connection with a case involving the transmission of sensitive Indian Navy data to Pakistan. The arrest was made by officers from the Malpe police station in Udupi district. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Hitendra from Gujarat, allegedly provided SIM cards to the other two previously arrested individuals in exchange for money. The two earlier detainees are currently in judicial custody. Authorities are intensively interrogating Hitendra due to the gravity of the situation. It is suspected that more individuals may be implicated, and the investigation is diligently progressing on all fronts.
On November 21, two individuals were arrested by Karnataka Police for allegedly sharing confidential Indian Navy intelligence with Pakistan via WhatsApp and Facebook in return for financial gain. The arrested individuals, who worked at the Cochin Shipyard, were apprehended by Udupi Police following a complaint lodged by the Cochin Shipyard CEO at the Malpe police station. The suspects have been charged under relevant legal sections. The two arrested individuals, 20-year-old Rohit and 37-year-old Santri from Uttar Pradesh, are at the center of the investigation.
The primary accused, Rohit, who had been employed as an insulator at the Cochin Shipyard unit in Malpe, obtained classified information about Indian Navy ships from Santri, his colleague at the shipyard. The investigation has unveiled that the sensitive data was shared not only with Pakistan but potentially with other nations as well. The authorities suspect that substantial sums were exchanged for the divulged information, which included details about Indian Navy ships, ports under central government jurisdiction, and shipyard operations in Cochin and Malpe. Rohit, who had been stationed in Kerala before being transferred to Malpe, continued to leak information even after the relocation.
The Superintendent of Police emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that the accused compromised national security and internal stability. The probe is ongoing to ascertain the involvement of additional parties in the espionage activities.
