Entire Kolkata is under tight security for the Ratha Yatra festival, with major processions, including one by ISKCON, set to take place. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will inaugurate the ISKCON procession and walk a part of the way, leading to special security measures.
Around 2,000 policemen are deployed in Kolkata, particularly along the procession routes. Quick Response Teams and Heavy Radio Flying Squad vans are stationed strategically, with drones aiding in aerial surveillance for added security. Over 80 Ratha Yatra processions are planned in the city.
The ISKCON procession will start from Albert Road and culminate at Brigade Parade Ground, passing through various areas. The Chief Minister will kick off the event by pulling the Rath’s rope and joining the procession briefly before heading to East Midnapore for more Rath Yatra activities. The state government is supporting 60 Rath Yatra committees with financial assistance this year, allocating a total of Rs 3 crore.
