A five-storey commercial building collapsed in Jabalpur’s Bada Fuhara area during heavy rain, but fortunately, no casualties were reported due to the timely evacuation of the unsafe structure. The incident caused panic in the busy market area, but swift action by the authorities ensured no individuals were trapped under the debris.
Local BJP MP Ashish Dubey emphasized the importance of identifying and mitigating risks posed by old structures, especially during the monsoon season. He commended the district administration for recognizing the building’s hazardous condition and evacuating it before the collapse, preventing any harm to the occupants. The collapsed building, used for commercial purposes, belonged to Raja Jain and Rakesh Jain, residents of the Kotwali area.
Following the collapse around 7.30 pm, emergency response teams including police, fire brigade, and ambulance services promptly arrived at the scene. The area was secured, and thorough search operations were conducted to ensure no one was trapped. The administration has contacted the building owners for further information on its condition and ownership details.
The incident occurred amidst heightened monsoon activity in Madhya Pradesh, with Jabalpur experiencing heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department has forecasted continued rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in various districts, including Jabalpur, over the next 24 hours. This event has underscored the need for safety assessments of old structures in urban areas during the rainy season, prompting local authorities to conduct safety audits and preventive measures.
