After the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight opener between Pakistan and New Zealand was called off due to rain in Colombo, Pakistan now holds the record for the most abandoned T20 International games. Pakistan’s captain chose to bat first, but rain made the pitch unplayable, leading to the match’s abandonment.
Pakistan tops the list with seven abandoned T20 International matches, closely followed by Ireland and New Zealand with six each. India and the Netherlands have had four matches each abandoned due to weather or other interruptions. The abandoned game resulted in both teams earning one point each in Group 2, potentially affecting their path to the semifinals.
This washout marks Pakistan’s first-ever abandoned T20 World Cup match. In a similar incident during the 2024 T20 World Cup, the India vs Canada match was also called off without a single ball bowled, adding to the rain-affected drama of the tournament.
