Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on May 10 and 11 for special events at the Somnath temple and the inauguration of the Sardardham Hostel complex in Vadodara. He will start his visit in Jamnagar on May 10 before heading to Somnath the next day. On May 11, around 10.15 A.M., PM Modi will take part in the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’ at the temple, which celebrates 75 years since its restoration.
As part of the program, the Prime Minister will join the Vishesh Maha Puja, followed by the Kumbhabhishek and Dhvajarohan ceremonies, important consecration rituals of the temple. He will also unveil a commemorative stamp and coin highlighting the historical and spiritual significance of Somnath. PM Modi is also scheduled to address a gathering at the event. The Somnath temple, located in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, holds great importance as a Hindu pilgrimage site.
The temple was reconstructed post-Independence with the support of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and was inaugurated in 1951 by India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Earlier this year, the temple trust organized the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ to mark 1,000 years since the first recorded attack on the shrine. Preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit have been actively underway in Gir Somnath district over the past few days.
After the Somnath program, PM Modi will proceed to Vadodara, where he will inaugurate the Sardardham Hostel complex around 6 P.M. The project includes hostel accommodations for 1,000 boys and 1,000 girls, along with a central dining hall, library, auditorium, and e-library facilities. During his visit, the Prime Minister will inspect various sections of the Sardardham campus. Preparations in Vadodara have been ramped up ahead of the visit, with route inspections and security reviews being conducted by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and local officials.
