Union Sports Minister and Porbandar MP Mansukh Mandaviya criticized the Congress for its negative attitude towards Gujarat. The dispute arose following comments by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge during a rally in Kerala. Kharge had remarked that the people of Kerala are wise and cannot be misled like those in Gujarat.
Mandaviya highlighted the Congress party’s historical bias against Gujarat and its people. He pointed out instances where the party allegedly hindered the state’s progress, including stalling the Narmada dam project. The Sports Minister emphasized that Kharge’s recent statement exemplifies Congress’s animosity towards Gujarat.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel condemned Kharge’s comments as objectionable and unfortunate. Patel expressed disappointment over the derogatory remarks, stating that they not only insult the six crore Gujaratis but also tarnish the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He underscored Gujarat’s pivotal role in the nation’s development and unity.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi also criticized the Congress for its alleged animosity towards Gujarat. Sanghavi questioned the party’s repeated targeting of the state and its people, labeling such behavior as insulting. He asserted that the people of Gujarat have consistently rejected the Congress’s disparaging attitude towards the state’s revered leaders.
Kharge’s comments were part of his campaign in Kerala, where he criticized both the BJP and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), sparking political tensions between the parties in different states.
