Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the Land Port Management System (LPMS) to enhance border and internal security, aligning with the government’s commitment to fortify the frontier and boost cross-border trade. The LPMS, established under the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), serves as a pivotal security layer and facilitates smoother and more secure trade operations. Shah emphasized the role of LPMS in fostering connectivity between people on both sides and promoting cultural exchange through land ports.
The LPMS, described as a cutting-edge digital platform, streamlines operations across land ports by integrating them into a cohesive system. This system ensures the secure and real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, bringing land ports on par with digital systems in airports and seaports. The initiative underscores the government’s dedication to smart border management, aiming to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement through technology-driven solutions.
In addition to launching LPMS, Amit Shah inaugurated modern stakeholder accommodation facilities at Dawki (Meghalaya) and Srimantapur (Tripura) Land Ports, bolstering infrastructure support for border security personnel and other stakeholders. This move signifies a significant stride in India’s transition towards a modern, technology-driven smart border management system, aligning with the country’s strategic focus on strengthening trade facilitation, connectivity, and national security. The LPMS, functioning as a neutral and open platform, will facilitate seamless coordination among various stakeholders, including government agencies and private operators, to reduce delays and enhance operational efficiency.
Fully integrated with national platforms like Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange Gateway (ICEGATE) and Unit Linked Insurance Plan (ULIP), LPMS is poised to revolutionize border management by introducing end-to-end digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing. The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Border Management, plays a crucial role in developing and managing land ports to promote trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation. Currently, LPAI oversees 15 land ports along India’s international borders, facilitating trade and connectivity with neighboring countries.
