The death toll from the recent earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 3,889, with 16,740 individuals sustaining injuries, as stated by Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. Rodriguez also mentioned that the earthquakes, which occurred on June 24, have rendered 17,907 people homeless. Official reports indicate that 6,462 individuals have been rescued in the aftermath of the natural disasters.
Venezuela has experienced 1,142 aftershocks since the initial earthquakes, according to a report from Xinhua news agency. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez expressed gratitude for the humanitarian aid extended by 28 countries to assist the earthquake victims in Venezuela. She acknowledged the support while visiting a collection center in Caracas, where over 2,000 tonnes of international aid are being organized for distribution to temporary shelters accommodating those affected by the earthquakes.
In response to the international aid, Rodriguez emphasized that Venezuela appreciates the solidarity shown by nations worldwide during this challenging time. She highlighted the importance of focusing on the future and the reconstruction efforts needed to restore the affected regions. Additionally, authorities reported that 17,345 individuals have been displaced, leading to the establishment of several temporary camps to aid those in need.
Venezuela’s acting president declared a seven-day period of national mourning as a tribute to the earthquake victims. In a social media statement, Rodriguez expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting and safeguarding them during this period of grief.
