The West Bengal government instructed Kolkata Police to file an FIR following a fire in Tiljala, east Kolkata, that resulted in two deaths. Additionally, a committee has been set up to investigate the fire incident and deliver a report by the next morning. The directive from the government emphasized the significant loss of life and property due to the fire.
Two individuals lost their lives, and five others sustained severe burn injuries during the fire at a multi-story building on GJ Khan Road in Tiljala. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital for their burns, with their conditions reported as critical. Locals reported that the fire originated on the second floor of a four-story building and quickly engulfed the area in black smoke.
The fire’s intensity trapped seven individuals in the room, leading them to seek refuge in the bathroom. Despite efforts by fire officials to rescue them, two individuals were declared dead upon examination at the hospital. The fire department suspects a short circuit as the possible cause of the fire, with investigations ongoing to determine the exact origin of the incident. The condition of the remaining five injured individuals is critical, raising concerns of a potential rise in the death toll.
