Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his intention to participate in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi during a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The call, lasting about 45 minutes, focused on preparations for President Lula’s State Visit to India from February 19 to 21. Both leaders discussed Global South priorities and advocated for United Nations Security Council reform ahead of their upcoming bilateral summit in India.
PM Modi and President Lula reviewed the agenda for the visit, emphasizing cooperation in key sectors such as defense, trade, health, science and technology, energy, biofuels, critical minerals, and rare earths. They highlighted the significance of the Brazil–India Business Forum scheduled for February 21, welcoming the participation of private sector representatives from both countries.
President Lula also mentioned the inauguration of the ApexBrasil Office in New Delhi during his State Visit. The leaders underscored the need for comprehensive reform of the United Nations and its Security Council, emphasizing their commitment to peace worldwide, multilateralism, and democracy.
India and Brazil have strengthened their cooperation in various fields, including trade, energy, technology, and participation in multilateral forums like BRICS. Both nations advocate for reforming global institutions to ensure greater involvement of emerging powers in global decision-making processes, particularly at the United Nations.
President Lula’s attendance at the AI Impact Summit, scheduled for February 16-20, is expected to bolster India’s efforts to establish New Delhi as a hub for global discussions on artificial intelligence, focusing on development-oriented and Global South perspectives.
