Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan expressed concerns about the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left government in Kerala, stating that even loyal Communists have lost faith. Speaking in Thalassery during the Congress-led UDF’s Puthuyuga Yatra, Satheesan highlighted a perceived shift towards extreme Right positions by the CPI(M). He accused the party of using tactics similar to the BJP, leading to religious polarization in the state.
Satheesan noted a growing sense of insecurity among minority communities, attributing it to the government’s alleged shift from minority to majority appeasement. This change, he claimed, has resulted in a loss of support from both groups. He emphasized that long-time Left supporters are becoming increasingly disillusioned with the current situation.
Referring to the Sabarimala gold theft case, Satheesan pointed out that three CPI(M) leaders are already in jail for their alleged involvement. He warned that more party members could face imprisonment as the investigation progresses. Satheesan also criticized the government for allegedly pressuring the Special Investigation Team to protect those implicated in the case.
The Opposition leader raised concerns about various issues, including agrarian distress, wildlife attacks, and non-payment of wages, which were reportedly not adequately addressed by the government. He highlighted the UDF’s plans to present alternative policy documents, including a health vision document, to address the failures of the current administration.
